One of the big jobs we completed recently was a series of videos for the City of Columbia. This year the city held the first ever Columbia Image Awards, which will be an annual or bi-annual award ceremony designed to recognize excellence in building, development and landscaping in our city. Boxcar Films bid on and was awarded the job in June and we completed the videos and presented them at the award banquet in early September.
The picture above was taken from my point-of-view during the Image Award ceremony (I was sitting behind the screen controlling the videos from a laptop).
For the presentation we created a video of the winners in each category (7 total) which consisted of interviews and b-roll of the various sites. We shot the interviews at Randy Sinquefield’s Spectrum Studios, which is conveniently located just around the corner from us in downtown Columbia. For shots of the buildings we used a D-SLR snapping 5 images per second, then applied a vignette and some filters to stylize the b-roll and give it an old-film look. We also created a custom looping animated background which stayed on the screen in between videos while the MC was speaking.
The award ceremony was a hit and we received a lot of great feedback on the videos we created. Check out one of the 7 winner videos below.
